Horry County Integrates ArcSDE/ArcIMS Tools for Combined Municipal Data Management
Track: GIS Organization, Management and Implementation
Author(s): Tim Oliver, Jim Kiles

No matter how you get information in the Myrtle Beach area, chances are you are--or you will soon be--using GIS.

While data sharing is preached by users across the globe, many municipalities tread carefully when providing data from county to city or, even more rare, to jointly maintain data that crosses those political boundaries. Horry County, South Carolina, is actively working with the cities of Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, by allowing them the use of the county's fiber network then sharing the integrated enterprise geodatabase for these municipalities to conduct their business.

The joint county/city relationship is unique in many ways, one of which is the 4.5 million visitors that impact the community for eight months out of the year. Attendees will learn how those integrated data management techniques and tools were built and how they are maintained and enforced in a shared geodatabase environment.
