Enterprise GIS Implementation at the Frederick County Sanitation Authority
Track: GIS Organization, Management and Implementation
Author(s): John Hankley, Mike Beardslee, Craig Lees

The Frederick County Sanitation Authority (FCSA) has experienced significant growth over the last decade. In an effort to maximize operational efficiency, FCSA leaders have made a serious commitment to implementation and integration of various enterprise-class digital management systems. Centered on Microsoft's SQL Server, a robust core architecture has been designed to feed a variety of useful management applications. The central application is Esri's ArcSDE, which distributes a geometric network-enabled dataset modeling FCSA's water and sewer assets. Other key applications provide tools for financial (accounting) and customer management (tracking and billing). The powerful GIS fuels Azteca's Cityworks application, used to support management, operation and maintenance of the 700-mile network. With a centralized data storage hub serving the entire enterprise, great efficiencies have been realized in the elimination of redundant data entry and real-time distribution of up-to-date data to all FCSA users.
