Abstract
Innovative Tools for Data Reconciliation/Production Use Track: Electric and Gas Author(s): Alice MacPhee In 2005, PSE&G Gas of Newark, New Jersey, embarked on a GIS implementation, digitizing hard-copy wall maps and merging them with equipment data from its asset management system. PSE&G photographed hard-copy wall maps and sent them offshore for digitization. At the same time, other data was being compiled from its current SAP system and other legacy systems. For example, the SAP system captured valve information that coincided with the digitized wall map valve features, yet resided in a different database (lacking spatial information). While a small portion of SAP data could be associated directly to the wall map data, the challenge was linking and migrating the remaining nonspatial SAP data to the geodatabase. Geocoding was the first step, and several unique tools were developed to help PSE&G successfully complete this process. Once complete, PSE&G leveraged these tools/code within its current production environment.
