Abstract
The National Map of Texas Track: Cartography and Map Production Author(s): Felicia Retiz The Texas Strategic Mapping program produced seven digital basemap layers for the entire state. As a showcase to the unprecedented dataset, the USGS and the Texas Natural Resources Information System partnered to create an updated 7.5" USGS quad map. The issue of producing 4,400 maps, the number of quad maps covering Texas, quickly became the biggest hurdle. Enter Esri's newest product PLTS MPS Atlas. MPS Atlas is a robust map production solution that incorporates large amounts of data and allows for dynamic map surrounds based on geographic extent. The ability to create all 4,400 maps without manually touching each map proved efficient and affordable. Updates to the USGS 7.5" quadrangle can now happen much faster than the current average time of 25-30 years.
