Abstract
Ecological Change in the Tulare Basin of California Track: Ecology and Conservation Author(s): Scott Phillips The Tulare Basin of California once supported a large mosaic of upland and fresh water ecosystems. Large-scale land conversion over the past 150 years has transformed the basin to a highly productive agricultural region. Habitat loss due to land conversion has been a primary cause of endangerment for plants and animals native to the region. We use historical and modern map and geographic information systems data to examine landscape change over time and estimate remaining habitat suitable for endangered species. The resulting geographic information provides a resource for developing recovery strategies for endangered and threatened species in the region. Scott Phillips CSU Stanislaus/ESRP 1900 N.
