Abstract
Using GIS for Spatial and Temporal Analysis of Transportation Statistics Track: Transportation Author(s): Jake Satin-Jacobs, Julie Henry Los Angeles Metro required the development of a GIS that would spatially and temporally track the supply (scheduled buses) and demand (ridership) for its buses on all bus routes. Analysis needed to be for any given time period and results had to be at the city block level. The completed system would assist Metro in adjusting the number of buses and coordinating schedules to anticipate demand. This need led to the development of the Spatial and Temporal Analysis of Transportation Statistics (STATS) GIS system. This paper will outline the methodology used to create STATS and give examples of its use by Metro.
