Abstract
GIS Methods for Child Health and Welfare Analysis Track: Health and Human Services Author(s): Paul Burgess, Lisa Benvenutti This paper discusses GIS methods for organizing, analyzing and presenting data from the public health sector such that this data has operational benefits to public agencies and nonprofits. The paper highlights issues associated with using public health data such as client confidentiality, data quality, data sharing, scale concerns and presentation of statistical analyses on maps. The paper also addresses techniques for compiling, analyzing and presenting data to community service providers and their clients for impact evaluation. Lessons from the project team's experience working with the First 5 Commission for San Bernardino County, California, will guide the discussion of these issues.
