Abstract
Unique Aspects of Illinois State Water Survey's DFIRM Production Steps Track: Water Resources Author(s): Kingsley Allan, Melony Barrett, Lisa Verhelst As cooperating technical partners with FEMA, the Illinois State Water Survey (ISWS) and Illinois Department of Natural Resources Office of Water Resources are working jointly to create Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs) as part of the billion-dollar nationwide Map Modernization Program. Work began in 2004 to prepare maps for five counties, and over the next five years, the survey will prepare maps for nearly 100 counties in Illinois. While the survey has a long association with floodplain mapping, the scale of this effort required the creation of a new workflow that jointly addresses efficiency, quality, map improvement, and teamwork. This presentation will review the overall workflow in the context of forces that shaped it. *Note: This presentation pairs with ISWS presentations by Tolga Yilmaz and Phil Graff.
