Abstract
Oracle and ArcSDE Deployment with Linux Red Hat and Dell Server Architecture Track: System Implementation for GIS Author(s): Raymond Obuch, Christopher Skinner The U.S. Geological Survey Central Energy Resources Team (CERT) Oracle database contains oil-, gas-, and coal- related data in support of energy resource surveys and analyses. In addition, this spatial database system is accessed through a variety of desktop and Web applications using Esri's ArcSDE middleware product. Prototyping and documenting the Linux Red Hat 2.1/4 Advanced Server, Oracle9i/10g, ArcSDE 9 installation and configuration, and system performance was important in the decision to use Red Hat Linux and Dell server architecture in a production environment. This documentation provides users with a "jump start" toward the migration to a Dell/Linux/Oracle/ArcSDE environment. In addition, testing and documenting the migration of ArcSDE layers into the new environment were accomplished as well as performance metrics obtained through Esri's ArcGIS TOFINO tool set extension.
