Using ArcIMS to Link both Spatial and Nonspatial Data
Track: Database Design, Automation, and Management
Author(s): Randy Smith, Chris Walls, Chris Walls

The Monroe County GIS Web site provides a wealth of information that has evolved over the past 15 years to integrate multidepartmental data into a single system. The Web site is an online mapping tool utilizing ArcIMS and ArcSDE to link both spatial and nonspatial databases into an enterprise GIS. It allows users to view more than 500 gigabytes of spatial data, create customized parcel queries, and retrieve detailed data from the Assessor, Auditor, Board of Commissioners, Health, Highway, Planning, and Voter Registration Departments. With all of Monroe County's departments now linked together, they can administer and manage their data more effectively. As soon as edits are saved in ArcMap, the end user sees them immediately on the IMS site. With the system now on the Internet, more than 400 county employees, as well as the public, are using the system to accomplish government-related tasks and assist businesses.
