Abstract
Organizing the Defense Business Mission Areas' Geospatial Asset Portfolio Track: GIS Organization, Management and Implementation Author(s): Randall Turner The Defense Installation Spatial Data Infrastructure or DISDI was launched in July 2004 to assist the Department of Defense in organizing its geospatial information resource investments. DISDI provides DoD with the ability to respond to new federal mandates for improved geospatial asset accountability, investments oversight, and other federal mandates such as OMB Circular A-16 requiring maximized sharing of geospatial information resources and minimized redundant investments. This presentation will highlight DISDI acquisition assurance efforts to develop a portfolio management strategy for organizing the vast quantities of geospatial assets within DoD installations and environment business mission areas. This includes building the portfolio, methods for analyzing and managing it, and establishing accountability procedures for geographic information systems through existing DoD information technology directives and investment review processes.
