Abstract
Metadata for Health Track: Health and Human Services Author(s): Anne Millington California Department of Health Services (CDHS), needing current standards-compliant data, employs an expanding group of GIS practitioners. The Emergency Preparedness Office (EPO) within CDHS additionally needs stand-alone spatial data for public health emergency response and is taking the lead in identifying and classifying metadata on required datasets. These include framework, health and emergency operations data, critical infrastructure, legacy spatial and tabular databases, and an eclectic mix of program-specific reports. At a minimum, a subset of FGDC-compliant metadata, including acquisition and confidentiality information, is collected on each dataset. The catalog developed in this process will be shared with CDHS; its parent agency; and other state, local, and public GIS professionals. It will be made available through online spatial metadata catalogs and various intra- and extranet distribution points. This will result in a uniquely health-oriented spatial metadata catalog, intended to evolve in concert with other Federal, state and local data description initiatives.
