Mapping Seagrasses and Benthic Habitat in the Texas Coastal Bend
Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources
Author(s): John Wood

Sea grass is an important component of coastal habitat, serving as a nursery area for fish and as an indicator species of the health of the coastal ecosystem. A partnership with NOAA's Coastal Services Center, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Harte Research Institute are mapping benthic habitat along the Texas coast, using reprocessed NAIP imagery flown in November 2004. This paper will describe the project and the processes developed to accomplish it.
