Abstract
Designing an Economic Development GIS Application in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Tobin Bradley, Amy Weeks In response to the current push for advanced E-government GIS-based applications, Mecklenburg County's Geospatial Information Services department has teamed with the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce to develop a new interactive economic development Internet mapping application. The application will enhance the Charlotte Chamber's Web site and help entice new business and industry to locate or relocate to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area. It will also serve as a new economic development portal for existing users of Mecklenburg County's GIS online services. The application was developed by existing staff, using Microsoft's ASP. NET and Esri's ArcIMS. The final product will be discussed in detail along with design, development and implementation issues. The application development framework used can be adapted for other local governments interested in implementing their own economic development GIS Internet application.
