Abstract
Integration of Enterprise Systems: Water Modeling and GIS Track: Water Resources Author(s): Durmus Cesur The management of watershed and water resources requires integrated analysis that includes the integration of a multitude of modeling systems at the core. In this paper, the use of a GIS, as an integration framework for the water modeling system is explained with its advantages and disadvantages. Alternatives for integration of the modeling systems on a GIS platform through various techniques ranging from loosely coupled systems to tightly coupled systems are explored. The current research work and real case implementation activities in the modeling and GIS integration are reviewed with examples from the comparable activities from the United States and Europe. Based on the current activities and the general trend in the integration, it is predicted that the future of the integration and the role of GIS in this integration will be driven by the advancements in the information and communication technology, accessibility of the technology, and socioeconomic and political factors.
