Abstract
Challenges and Difficulties in Environment Preservation in the BAMPETRO Project Track: Environmental Management Author(s): Sergio Medeiros, Maria Esteves, Fabio Braga Geographic information technology helps the oil and gas industry organize data and develop new prospects for the exploration, drilling, production, refinement, transportation, distribution of the oil as well as the preservation of the environment. The BAMPETRO system intends to support the aspects of multiobjective spatial analysis within a distributed GIS to help industry members mitigate the environmental impact of these oil and gas activities. The main task of these groups is to produce proposals for environmental preservation or changes taking into account socioeconomics, climate, water, and soil aspects. This work presents the difficulties and challenges that guided the development of the BAMPETRO project, where 30 team members worked collaboratively to prepare and load 265 database tables containing 2,185 data attributes. This database includes information from biology, chemistry, geology, geophysics, seismology, socioeconomics, meteorology, and oceanography and has been used by several environment data consumers in the past three years.
