Abstract
Hancock County EOC Support: Mapping the Hardest-Hit County Post-Katrina Track: Disaster Mangagement and Emergency Response Author(s): Brian Adam, Kelly Boyd, Craig Harvey Following Katrina, NVision Solutions Inc. provided GIS support ranging from data discovery to map creation and distribution to establish a common thread in the coordination of Hancock County's first responders with outside assistance. Current street maps, map books, and indices were critical to orient deployed personnel in areas with few street signs and obstructed roadways. Wind surfaces, inundation maps, and damage assessments helped users to better understand the nature and impact of the storm. Search and rescue crews utilized before-and-after imagery composites and hydrological flow vector maps in their search for storm victims. Imagery was further used to determine debris field locations, locate displaced objects such as boats and shipping containers, and pinpoint unimpeded roads and waterways. NVision Solutions Inc. aspired to quickly respond to any problem encountered through simple or complex GIS solutions including data discovery, ArcSDE database development, custom map production, and Web development.
