Abstract
Launching a GIS for a Rapidly Expanding School System Track: Education Author(s): Bryan Carlisle Forsyth County, Georgia, has been listed among the fastest growing counties in the U.S. in recent years. Forsyth County Schools has experienced growing pains as well. The school system revolutionized its approach to managing this growth with the implementation of GIS. As a result of the issues associated with an increasing student population, GIS has proven to be the best solution to manage the expanding assets, the changing bus routes, and the shifting attendance zones. This presentation is geared at GIS professionals and administrators wanting to make the move to enterprise GIS. In our implementation, GIS serves as the essential component for asset management, transportation modeling, and enrollment projections. The fundamental challenges of the project will be highlighted as well as the tools to achieve success: tenacity, courage, leadership, a smile (occasionally through gritted teeth), and a willingness to experiment.
