Web Mapping Services for the San Diego Bay Watersheds
Track: Water Resources
Author(s): Ming-Hsiang Tsou

The San Diego Bay Watersheds Common Ground Project (http://www.sdbay.sdsu.edu) incorporates water quality monitoring programs and data gathering, integration, and analysis at a watershed level. The result is a Web-based interactive application to serve as a broad communication, education, and decision-making tool. The primary goal of the project is to further develop the region's capacity to understand processes affecting our water resources so that point and nonpoint pollution sources can be readily identified and abated. The Common Ground Web Mapping Services have a combination of centralized ArcIMS and metadata servers and distributed databases and users components. This project also explores some advanced multimedia GIS functions such as creating linkage between Web mapping services to GPS tracking, 3D visualization movies, linking to mobile GIS devices, and testing user-interactive discussion methods.
