An Analysis of the Heat Island Phenomenon Using ArcGIS 9

This study resulted in the creation of the thermal environmental map in Osaka, which shows the characteristics of the thermal environment. At first, the infrared radiation sensor in an aircraft measured the ground surface temperatures in Osaka, a 1,000 km2 area. Next, the image data that showed the distribution of the ground surface temperatures was analyzed by using ArcGIS 9. In addition, the characteristics of the thermal environment in the region were identified by the heat island factors, anthropogenic heat, ground surface conditions and meteorological conditions.
