From the early 1990s the importance of forest environment and the concept of forest management have been expanded. Many international conventions and organizations demand various national forest statistics about forest resources, land use and forest environment for the protection of earth environment. In Korea, the 5th National Forest Inventory (N.F.I) started in 2005 with multipurpose concept and information about forest resources, forest site, ecological environment gathered to cope with domestic and foreign need for forest statistics. To efficiently integrate and manage this field survey data, locational information based GIS DB construction was neeed. In this study we designed an optimized geographic data model that describes various data from N.F.I and reflects national forest statistics needs. This data model design was based of N.F.I GIS DB construction.
