Author(s): Yuji Honma

The Planning Department of the Tokyo Metropolitan government, one of the world's largest cities with the population of 12 million, launched its new GIS system using ArcGIS Server. Dozens of layers of geographic information and advanced GIS functionalities for wide range of urban planning tasks can now be accessed by 1,500 planners through standard Web browser on their desktops. The government plans to extend the system as an enterprise GIS shared among 30,000 potential users connected to its network.
