GIS As Applied to Community-Based Studies Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Rakesh Malhotra, John Bang, Lenora Smith, Yolanda Anderson, Saundra DeLauder, Marcia Bradshaw A community-based approach to environmental monitoring, where concerns of local residents were dynamically integrated and used to direct the project, was applied to two economically and educationally disadvantaged areas in central North Carolina to assess environmental hazard exposure and impact.
