Adding Business Intelligence through GIS

D&E uses CADTEL's GIS Web portal, SpatialNAVIGATOR, to leverage GIS and legacy system data. This allows D&E to view facilities data stored in SDE with billing, service order and trouble ticket data to give all levels of personnel viewing and reporting capabilities on facilities and nonfacilities data that are interdependent.



D&E also uses SpatialNAVIGATOR to manage Locate tickets from PA One-Call (sent to D&E via e-mail). A substantial percentage of the Locate requests can be closed without a truck roll, and field personnel have the ability to close a Locate ticket from the field.



D&E also qualifies digital subscriber line (DSL) customers in their service areas by tying facility and customer-related data from outside sources. This tool determines decibel loss and impeding facilities to accurately display which customers are qualified for any, or all, DSL type services. The data is then thematically displayed.



All of the above equates to substantial operational expense savings.
