Tips and Tricks on Using ArcGIS for Prefire Planning Track: EMS/Fire Author(s): Chris Rogers The Kirkland Fire Department has been using GIS software to produce and maintain prefire plans for several years. After some years of work, we've found several tips that make ArcGIS a useful program including -Standardization of plans and symbols -Avoiding duplication of other map work (e.g., hydrant maintenance) -Using ArcPad for mobile data collection -3D modeling of a potential hazard -Community risk assessment -Ability to see an incident location in several views -Integration of GIS data that isn't readily available in standard CAD programs -Several other advantages ArcGIS has proven to be a labor-saving tool.
