Abstract
Software Tools for Coastal-Marine Ecosystem-Based Management Track: Ocean, Coastal, and Marine Resources Author(s): Sarah Carr, Patrick Crist Ecosystem-based management (EBM) of coastal and marine environments is an important opportunity to integrate science, natural resource management, and land-use planning. Policymakers and managers need specialized tools to visualize and analyze information about the vast array of natural and human systems in coastal and marine environments and to assess the current state of natural resources and potential consequences of decisions on those resources. The David and Lucile Packard Foundation has started an EBM tools network to assess currently available software tools for coastal-marine EBM, provide training for EBM tool use, and identify and support EBM tool improvement and development. This session will provide information to participants about currently available EBM tools, the Packard EBM tools program, and our vision for the next generation of coastal-marine geospatial analysis tools.
