Abstract
Introducing the GI S&T Body of Knowledge 2006 Track: Education Author(s): David DiBiase A "Body of Knowledge" is a comprehensive inventory of the intellectual content that defines a field. Following the lead of such allied fields as computer science, information science, and management information systems, the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science (UCGIS) has recently completed the first edition of a Geographic Information Science and Technology (GI S&T) Body of Knowledge (BoK 2006). BoK 2006 specifies more than 350 individual topics organized in 79 units and 10 knowledge areas. Each topic is defined in terms of formal educational objectives. The document is expected to be used as a resource for curriculum planners and evaluators; certification and accreditation bodies; current and prospective students; and geospatial professionals in government, industry, and academia. This presentation will discuss the content, uses, and future activities of BoK 2006 and the UCGIS Model Curricula project. BoK 2006 is available for review at http://www.ucgis.org.
