Abstract
Applying GIS to Track Assets for NOAA's Incident Coordination Center Track: Disaster Mangagement and Emergency Response Author(s): Heather Gilbert, Kim Owens, Robb Wright During the 2005 hurricane season, the U.S. Gulf Coast was impacted by the most intense hurricane season ever recorded. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Incident Coordination Center (ICC) is responsible for directing and tracking NOAA assets in response to natural or man-made incidents. The requirement to have all necessary information readily available drove the need to create an NOAA ICC GIS. The focus of this presentation will be on the integration of intra- and interagency geospatial data, the resulting NOAA ICC ArcIMS Web site, and the GIS and map-derived products created to support NOAA's hurricane response. The GIS allowed key staff to monitor NOAA facilities and deployed assets including NOAA personnel, aircraft, and ships in the Gulf Coast region during this critical time. The presentation will also include key challenges, lessons learned, and a road map for an NOAA Enterprise ICC GIS.
