Abstract
The National Historical Geographic Information System Track: Census and Geodemographics Author(s): Mark Lindberg, Robert McMaster The National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) is a five-year $5 million NSF-funded project to establish a temporal census database for the United States. Using ArcGIS software, the project has created census tract-level boundary files for 1910 to 2000 and for counties from 1790 to 2000. All associated statistical data has also been geocoded and is available with the boundary files. The paper discusses the development of the database and possible applications.
