Abstract
Report on GISCorps Activities for 2005-2006 Track: Sustainable Development and Humanitarian Affairs Author(s): Shoreh Elhami, Juna Papajorgji The GISCorps, a program of the Urban and Regional Information Systems Association (URISA), will give a report of its activities. GISCorps coordinates short-term volunteer GIS services to underserved communities worldwide, and it counts more than 950 experienced volunteers who reside in 47 countries and five continents. Since last year, the Corps has implemented more than 10 missions in various regions of the world involving more than 60 volunteers. The GISCorps volunteers have offered their knowledge and expertise to communities in need in Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe, several African countries, and in the United States after hurricane Katrina. The presentation will include information about GISCorps' implemented missions and lessons that were learned.
