Abstract
New York City's Spatial Service-Oriented Architecture: An Overview Track: System Implementation for GIS Author(s): Mario Gouvea, Marsha Kaunitz New York City's Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT) recently expanded its ArcIMS hosting environment. It originally consisted of 25 Sun Microsystems servers running ArcIMS, ArcSDE, Oracle Enterprise Edition, Oracle Spatial and Sun Java System Web server supporting public facing Internet ArcIMS web application to include 19 new servers which support Intranet applications. The new infrastructure includes ArcGIS Server to support the creation of geospatial Web services, WebLogic Server Process Edition to support business process management and orchestrate them to enable the creation of composite Web services, which will support the needs of several NYC government agencies through this core service-oriented architecture (SOA). This paper will describe the infrastructure and some of the applications and services hosted by DoITT including New York CityMap, an application that utilizes an Ajax-based Web client to provide users with a "desktop-like" experience and interact with XML-based information services.
