Abstract
Celebrating Six Years--The City of Grapevine's Citywide GIS Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Teri Landrum Six years ago the city of Grapevine, Texas, began the process of creating and implementing a citywide GIS. Although small in population (48,000), Grapevine is attractively situated between the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth with the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport Terminals encompassed within its boundaries. Grapevine prides itself as being a progressive and well-educated community, so being able to provide GIS technology was right in line with the city's long-range goals. City officials needed visually pleasing maps, accurate information and location analysis readily available to citizens, developers and city staff. This paper will discuss the process, goals, decisions, and mistakes that resulted in a GIS that has become an invaluable tool to the city of Grapevine.
