Identifying and Modeling Transit Accessibility Gaps for the Mobility Impaired
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Lynne Gearhart, Michael Wilhelm, Kerry Brooks

This project is part of the Spokane JARC (Job Access and Reverse Commute) program implemented by a local consortium led by Spokane Transit Authority. This project aims to identify accessibility improvements to the transit system. We are developing a fine-scale network model to represent the accessibility of pedestrian destinations from transit stops by people with mobility impairments. To ensure that all important impediments are represented, we are holding workshops with the disabled community and will incorporate results from these events into the data model. This dataset will be used in Network Analyst to model accessibility that accounts for barriers in the system and, eventually, in a pedestrian routing system.

This presentation will detail progress to date, including the pedestrian data model and the results of its application to pilot areas. We will highlight the data development process including the workshop results along with plans for future work and modeling.
