Application of SWReGAP Data to Utah's Forest Stewardship Program
Track: Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management
Author(s): Lisa Stoner, Kevin Wells, R. Ramsey, John Lowry

This presentation will describe how information produced by the Southwest Regional Gap Analysis Project (SWReGAP), including land cover, stewardship, and species richness data layers, have been incorporated into the Forest Stewardship Program's (FSP) Spatial Analysis Project (SAP) in Utah. The FSP was established under the 1990 Farm Bill to encourage private forest landowners to manage their lands according to professionally prepared forest stewardship plans. The SAP provides participating states with a consistent methodology for conducting statewide assessments to identify important forest lands along with any risks or vulnerabilities facing those resources. The RS/GIS Laboratory at Utah State University is working cooperatively with Utah's Department of Forest, Fire and State Lands, to develop a spatial model and graphical interface within ArcMap software's ModelBuilder environment to assist with real-time decision making and the development of forest stewardship plans.
