Evaluating Air Bridge Suitability Using Network Analyst
Track: Transportation
Author(s): Sean Morrish

It has been shown that accessibility to efficient transport and good communications are necessary for economic growth. A joint investigation between Wales and Ireland as to how an "air bridge" to Eastern Ireland from a commercial airport in northwest Wales would impact the social and economic development of communities in those areas is part of the European Union's Interreg IIIA program. The analysis of the present accessibility to air transport in the north Wales area and the effect of a commercial airport in North Wales and the service area that would be served by such an airport was carried out using Network Analyst and other GIS tools. The resultant analysis shows how an airport in north Wales would impact the local community and possibly stimulate economic growth.
