Abstract
Strategic Planning with GIS Tools in PETROBRAS Gas/Energy Unit Track: Petroleum and Pipeline Transmission Author(s): Jorge Castro The Gas and Energy unit of PETROBRAS is responsible for commercializing the natural gas in Brazil. Its activities include the strategic planning where itīs calculated the long and mid time scenarios for the gas offer and demand. This is the basis for an enterprise strategic planning in its energy sector. The GNGIS version is composed of Access DB, a mathematic module based on Microsoft Excel where the parameters are defined; an interface developed in VBScript to input data scenarios, and a GIS interface to display the spatial data. Actually PETROBRAS is going through a phase of updating the GNGIS database and reviewing its mathematical and economical models. The purpose of this process is to document the models used and to prepare the migration of this tool to the ArcGIS Server platform where some new GIS functionalities will be added.
