Abstract
Common Operating Picture for Support Enabeling NetCentric Operations Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Jeffery Marshall, Hans Peukert Common Operating Picture (COP) with support from COTS will enable interoperability, delivering on the promise of horizontal integration on the battlefield to help joint and coalition forces' transformation while enabling actionable knowledge. Objective of COP for support is to decrease the decision cycle time (aqua OODA loop--Observe, Orient, Decide, Act) of the force and to visulize the course of action. Building blocks are a geographic information system (GIS), a central user interface (defense portal) with additional layers that combine friendly and enemy forces data with environmental data with continuous refreshment of real-time data from information systems as well as RFID & Sensors based on a netcentric environment building on Web services (SOA ). Benefits are the creation of real-time situational awareness, compression of the OODA Loop, increased responsiveness to commander's intent and creation of predictive assessments of courses of action.
