Hazards Data Framework Supporting Asia-Pacific Data Sharing Network
Track: Disaster Mangagement and Emergency Response
Author(s): Chris Chiesa, David Askov, Richard Nezelek, Todd Bosse

In 2002, the Asia-Pacific Natural Hazards Information Network (APNHIN) was established by the Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) to promote data access and data sharing within the disaster/risk management community. Recently, APNHIN has been adopted as the data access, discovery and sharing mechanism for the multiagency, Hawaii-based Pacific Risk Management Ohana (PRiMO). PRiMO and its members promote and support risk management-related programs and activities in the region. This past year, under NSDI funding, PRiMO members, including PDC, USGS and NOAA, worked to further the development of a hazards data schema to facilitate sharing of this type of information. The initial focus of the hazards data schema is on waves and water level data. Future activities will address seismic and volcanic and weather and climate hazard categories. A preliminary implementation of this schema within APHNIN will be demonstrated.
