Hasmat Geodatabase and Plume Model for the City of Redlands
Track: Disaster Mangagement and Emergency Response
Author(s): Aaron Starr

This project concerns the subject of emergency management and preparation. The goal of the project is to develop part of a comprehensive GIS-enabled emergency management system for the city of Redlands.

Every day there are natural disasters, acts of terrorism and other emergencies. It is clear all municipalities need comprehensive emergency management plans that utilize all available resources and data. Emergencies have strong spatial components not only in their actual location but also the location of resources to address them and additional risks. Therefore, GIS can aid greatly with emergency planning and management.

Several departments within Redlands have a demonstrated need for an emergency management system including fire, police, public works and utilities. This project will contribute specific functionality to the emergency management system currently being implemented by the city.
