Integrating GIS into a Collaboration Portal for Humanitarian Support
Track: Defense and Intelligence
Author(s): Ray Renner

This paper describes the architecture and system designed by Northrop Grumman using ArcIMS to integrate Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) into a SharePoint collaboration portal for humanitarian relief support. The system provides an intuitive capability for nongovernment officials (NGO) and other users to collect data in the field, analyze it, and provide geographic and temporal visualization and reporting of this data. The collaboration portal provides the capability for the organization to operate its projects, collaborate on its work, and perform analysis and visualization of the data collected within a standard Web browser client interface. The introduction of the GIS into the collaboration environment provides a dynamic and responsive view into the NGO's data holdings that were not available prior to the development of this system.
