Abstract
Response Surfaces in NCSS Modeling Using Esri's ArcGIS Geostatistical Analyst Track: Cadastral and Land Records Author(s): Rich Piel, Debra Prins, Christie Most, Bob Kaldor, Don Saxby By the end of 2003, the King County Department of Assessments had the ability to use GIS to spatially analyze and value real property. Esri's Geostatistical Analyst was looked upon to expand the usefulness of GIS in the real property valuation process by analyzing location influences. A Response Surface characteristic was viewed as a potentially valuable addition to model building in NCSS. The project design was to create multiple models; one with no GIS component, a second applied a surface to the first model, a third started model building "from scratch" and included a surface variable, and a fourth model was developed eliminating land values as a variable and using a Response Surface value in its place. Kriging and cokriging were the selected methods of surface generation due to their ability to produce statistical prediction errors. The results showed best improvements when the Response Surface was incorporated "from scratch."
