Abstract
Topographic LiDAR Surveys for GIS Analyses in Coastal Parks Track: Parks and Natural Reserves Author(s): Jeremy Bracone, John Brock, Amar Nayegandhi A USGS-NPS-NASA partnership was used to collect high-resolution LiDAR (LIght Detection and Ranging) topographic data for national parks in the northeast United States, Florida, Caribbean, and the Gulf Coast. The USGS processed the resulting data sets using the Airborne Lidar Processing System (ALPS) and various GIS software to create detailed topographic maps, develop topographic complexity maps of patch reefs, and investigate coastal geomorphic change. The resulting high-resolution coastal submarine and subaerial topographic products can be presented effectively through ArcMap and ArcScene. Capabilities for the visualization and dissemination of these data sets through Google Earth and other NPS applications are under development within our USGS-NPS-NASA partnership.
