Abstract
A Hybrid Approach to Land-Cover Classification Track: Parks and Natural Reserves Author(s): Jess Grunblatt A hybrid approach to land-cover mapping was used in Glacier Bay National Park (GLBA) that allowed efficient allocation of interpretation resources. Manual interpretation of high-resolution photography was used to provide detailed identification of vegetation (vector output) along a narrow coastal strip that is characterized by steep terrain and prominent topographic shadowing. All other areas were described as unvegetated or water. Image processing (raster output) was used to identify broad areas of ice/snow that are characteristic of this park. The two products were integrated in ArcGIS to provide a final land-cover product for GLBA.
