Abstract
Landscape Architecture, Geodatabases and Hydrologic Models in Design Track: Architecture, Engineering, and Construction Author(s): Eric Castle This study is an integration of GIS, the Arc Hydro data model, and hydrologic models to solve land-use planning issues in the Little Kitten Creek watershed, Riley County, Kansas. Every day landscape architects plan and design watersheds. These designs alter land-use cover and change the hydrologic regime. When the site analysis process does not carefully assess hydrology, the impact can be devastating. With the advent of the geodatabase, and specifically the Arc Hydro data model, landscape architects have a flexible new tool for rapid simulation of a watershed. Arc Hydro allows for incorporation of traditional hydrologic modeling software to be linked to a geodatabase. To achieve the goals of this study, a hydrologic geodatabase will be constructed for the Little Kitten Creek watershed followed by comparative flood analysis of various land uses.
