Abstract
DGIS--Deployable GIS for NATO Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Florian Sayda, Jose Balsinhas NATO deployable forces, such as the NATO Response Force (NRF), require timely, up-to-date and accurate geospatial information for situational awareness and decision making. During the initial stage of an operation, only the crucial elements of a CJTF HQ will be deployed forward to the DJTF HQ. One component of the DJTF could be, if required, a geo cell with a deployable GIS. Deployable GIS in this context can be defined as dedicated hardware with possible peripherals and GIS software for in-field data acquisition and production that can quickly and easily be transferred to the area of action. Because the geo staff and resources at the DJTF HQ are limited, the parent HQ should support the forward deployed geo cell through Geo Reach Back Capabilities. This presentation shows results of research started in 2005 to detrmine how these capabilities could be made available to NATO.
