Abstract
GIS Helping the Navy to Reduce Energy Track: Defense and Intelligence Author(s): Sandrine Bielmann The Energy and Information Management Division (BMPW6) at NAVFAC Midlant has for the past four years implemented a geographic information system (GIS) for its utility systems, the key to success that is more than producing colorful maps. The goals and objectives are to save energy consumption in our installations and by integrating the strengths of current systems that provide energy, billing usage, and major maintenance data and reconciling it against the digital model of the utility, data can be transformed into useful information, enabling to make the right decisions. Integrating data has allowed engineers, managers, and field technicians to focus on continuous improvements in their utility system and energy management and customer service. Bottom line GIS is helping us reduce energy cost by analyzing and acting on information extracted from usage data aggregated from our different energy management systems.
