Abstract
Strategically Planning Fort Bend County's GIS Track: GIS Organization, Management, and Implementation Author(s): Robert LaBarbera In 2001, Fort Bend County's GIS was capable of handling minimal requests from Engineering Department staff, policy makers neededing paper maps, a few internal departments, and the general public. It was discovered that the GIS was experiencing multiple problems which, if not addressed soon, would cripple the GIS's ability to serve both its present and future internal and external clientele' consequently inhibiting the future growth, development' and distribution of the GIS throughout the County. Over the past 5 years, the Engineering Department has used specific futures studies and strategic planning tools such as Environmental Scanning, SWOT Analysis, GAP Analysis, Contingency Planning, along with Brainstorming to implement new products (ArcInfo and ArcView) and systems (ArcIMS and ArcSDE) creating positive change within the County's GIS.
