Abstract
Image Based Asset Inventories, Frederick County, Maryland Track: State and Local Government Author(s): Marshall Stevenson, Jason Dong, Bangyeon Kim Although the desire to establish a countywide asset inventory has been high, the associated effort and costs has prevented Frederick County to initiate the project. Last year, the County successfully used an image-based asset tracking approach to develop the inventories of signs, guardrails, and pavement markings. The data collected has been integrated with a work order management system tracking the installation and maintenance history. The image-based asset tracking system operates within ArcGIS. County users click on the photos captured by the system to create ArcGIS point and line features into a GeoDatabase. Frederick County uses the ArcReader, ArcIMS configuration to distribute the images on Intranet to multiple departments. The integration of photos with ArcGIS is proved as an innovative and cost-effective approach for creating road asset inventories for Frederick County, Maryland.
