Abstract
Developing a Corridor Alignment with GIS Track: Transportation Author(s): Thomas McMurty, Lowell Elmer Developing future road alignments can be a difficult, but beneficial process. Corridor studies identify a specific corridor for preservation, and effective corridors studies can reduce the impacts of future transportation improvements. The Dixie Western Corridor is a good example of the corridor study process of collecting data, identifying relevant issues, weighting criteria, creating alignments, evaluating alignments, and selecting a recommended a corridor. The corridor study process relies on GIS analysis to evaluate design and environmental considerations for each proposed alignment. The combination of quality GIS data from reputable sources and transparent GIS analysis results in both a recommended corridor and stakeholder confidence in the selected alternative.
