Abstract
Vector Borne Disease Surveillance using ArcWeb Services Track: Health and Human Services Author(s): Brian Wilbur, Jacob Mundt In 2006, Ada County Mosquito Abatement officials (Boise, ID) anticipated the introduction of West Nile Virus (WNV) to their abatement district. To maximize the dissemination of public information regarding the spread of WNV, an internet mapping solution was launched. This map illustrated where mosquitoes were being collected, and tabulated attributes such as the number and species of mosquitoes collected, the collection date, and if WNV was found in the sample or not. As anticipated, WNV made an abrupt entry to the county in 2006, with more than 200 human infections, and numerous positive mosquito samples. Public support for this website was generous, and the media found it to be an effective tool to keep up to date on the current conditions. In cooperation with Ada County, Esri has constructed an ArcWeb Services Template for mosquito surveillance programs. This presentation will describe the mosquito surveillance program and the ArcWeb Services Interface.
